• Only book boat trips with licensed operators that provide life jackets for everyone.
• Follow the guide's briefing and stay with the group while snorkelling.
• Never stand on the reef; wear water shoes when wading.
• Respect beach closures or flags. Shark incidents in the Red Sea are rare but have happened, and authorities close beaches when needed.

Sun, heat and water

The Red Sea sun is intense year-round. Drink plenty of bottled water, wear a hat and reef-safe sunscreen, and plan long sightseeing days like Luxor with heat in mind. Stick to bottled water, and choose busy restaurants with high turnover.
